Getting a Library Card Q & A 
Who is eligible for a free library card?
Patrons eligible for free library service in Madison County include:
Madison County residents
Individuals who own property in Madison County but reside out of county.
Library cards are issued to individuals and are not transferrable among family members or friends.
Any person age 16 and over may register by giving name, address, phone number, place of business or employment and must show one picture I.D. and proof of residence.
Can I get a card if I don't live in Madison County?
Nonresident library cards can be issued to patrons who do not meet residency requirements. The fee for this card is $30.00 per year or $20.00 for 1/2 year and is not refundable.
How old does my child need to be to get his/her own card?
Children are eligible for their own library cards when they reach the age of 5 years.
All applicants age 15 and under must have a parent or legal guardian read and sign the application. Parent must be present. By reading and signing the child’s application, the parent or guardian accepts financial responsibility for all items borrowed on the child’s card. When a parent or guardian applies for a child’s card, the child must be present.
How much does a library card cost?
The original card is free. A library user who has lost his/her card may apply for a new one by showing valid identification and paying a nonrefundable $3.00 replacement charge. Replacement cards are issued free of charge when a patron’s card becomes unusable due to normal wear.
How long is my card valid?
Library cards are valid for one year from date of issue. At the end of that time, cards must be updated in order to extend library privileges. To update the card, a patron must present proper identification.

Meeting Rooms
We have meeting rooms available for nonprofit functions. See the meeting room policy. Call your local branch for more details.
Printing & Copies
Black and white prints are 20¢, color are 50¢. Black and white photocopies are 20¢.
Public Computers
Each branch has a technology lab with public PCs to use during regular business hours.

Free during library hours.
